USB 3.0 demonstrates speed in HP laptop
Others | Raul | January 10, 2010 at 2:33 pmAs part of the many examples of the technological strides made in the past year at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2010, the president of the USB Implementers Forum briefly discussed the obvious advantages of implementing USB 3.0 as standard before presenting a hands-on comparison between the former and its wide-spread predecessor, USB 2.0.
It comes as no surprise that the latest innovation in data transfer (in terms of implementation, at least, since it is quite some time since its actual development) outdid the USB 2.0 by some distance and in style. Factual details shown by ASUS at CES stated that transferring a 2.1 GB file from a laptop to an external HDD through a USB 2.0 connection would take 2 minutes and 7 seconds, nearly twice as much as it would take a USB 3.0 to move the same amount of information.
Besides being twice as fast than its predecessor, the USB 3.0 technology seems to be even more power efficient, using just one-third of the power a 2.0 would normally use up. Furthermore, it is also backward compatible which means that until all PCs are pre-equipped with a 3.0, you can still manage peripherals which use an older USB standard.
Recent reports indicate that USB 3.0 will now be available to customers on laptops branded HP and ASUS, among other household names yet to be released. No worries if you don’t plan on changing your laptop since cards designed for ExpressCard slots are in mass production in order for users to upgrade their laptops to 3.0
