In this high tech world, the efficiency of connecting with your good people via social networks is undeniably convenient. With the famous breakthrough of social networks such as Facebook and Twitter; everyone connects through them. If you would have thought that was enough, you were wrong!
Instagram has been around for awhile on the IOS app store but it grew severely in popularity once the Android version was released. Instagram is basically alot like Flickr; a photo sharing website that enables its members to share their love for photographs as well as showcase their photography skills. However, Instagram could only be accessed through your Iphone, Itouch or Android device. The advantage that Instagram has over Flickr is the limitless amount of photos that could be shared whereas Flickr only allows you to keep up to 200 photos publicly.
Instagram shares a lot of similar aspects as Twitter as well. You are able to follow people, be followed and your profile has your total photo count. The great part of Instagram is the limitless capacity of photos that could be shared but in the end, is it really necessary to use Instagram?
Many people might argue that there is no point to have a Twitter account because on Facebook you can make updates just like a tweet. Well the same could be argued here except Twitter is over Instragram. On Twitter, you can post a picture as well and all of your pictures are posted on your profile. On Instagram, the only thing that you can do is to post pictures and put captions for them. Instagram does have a really quick and easy feel to it though which is why it is appealing to people. Unlike Flickr or Facebook, Instagram is not meant to upload tons of pictures at one time. It was created to just send out an occasional picture of what you are currently doing, almost like you would send out an occasional tweet. People find it interesting to use Instagram to make a shout out as it gives the feel of ‘a picture says a thousand words’.
For Instagram to move forward, I think it would be ideal to make a website version of it. This would enable people to have an access to it without having to own a smartphone. I think Instagram has a lot of potential but there is not too much to it for now. Leave your ideas on what to do with Instagram in the comments below!
