By Nokia Lumia users around the world now have access to a new update for Windows Phone 7: update 7740 – as build number suggests – was intended to fix several issues regarding some features like Microsoft Exchange 2003 and Visual Voicemail, as well as some technical problems encountered with the battery life. Testing so far indicated that the battery issue was not related to the hardware, but rather was a glitch in the software powering the smartphones.
This particular update is primarily intended for Nokia Lumia 800 and 710 versions, but it is expected to be available for other smartphones as well. The new build also includes some other minor bug fixes such as a reconfiguration of the ambient light sensor which was known to having issues when the smartphone was exposed to bright light – such as sunlight. Another improved feature is the call audio quality which needed further developing until reaching its intended superiority.
Although users also expected WiFi hotspot support, it seems like this update does not include such a feature, so a new update containing WiFi support is to be expected in the weeks/months to come. The reason behind this delay is most certainly related to the contracts with the carriers. In order to become available, telecoms must approve WiFi mobile hotspot support but that should not take too long.
The reasons behind this update – as well as the previous one – is quite good news simply because the company takes into consideration the needs of the public, given that Nokia Lumia 800 is probably the most popular Windows Phone 7 platform ever to be sold in the entire world.
In order to obtain the new Microsoft update, all there needs to be done is to connect the smartphone to a computer with internet capabilities, run Zune and begin the normal download. Although the features are not entirely new, better experience is to be expected.
