Over the previous weekend, Blizzard have been having the gaming news scene all to their own as their special convention, Blizzcon has been going on.
Possibly one of the greatest such events we’ve had, let’s do a quick run through the ten most important news that Blizzcon brought upon us.

10. World of Warcraft – back to basics
Though not very clear on the situation Blizzcon announces that with the next expansion of World of Warcraft will focus most on what really matters, namely the fight between alliance and horde.
9. Mists of Pandaria confirmed
Speaking of which, we received confirmation about the name of the World of Warcraft expansion and it will be called Mists of Pandaria as has been rumored.
8. WoW – a new class
It was at Blizzcon that we found out another situation about the future of World of Warcraft, namely that a new playable class will be introduced, the Monk.
7. WoW – a new continent
All these additions from World of Warcraft will need a place to stay so, courtesy of Blizzcon, we find out that Mists of Pandaria will also feature a new continent.
6. New WoW subscription plan – with bonus
World of Warcraft introduces the annual subscription plan with a few bonuses, to begin with, you’ll get Tyrael’s Charger a WoW Flying Mount that (apparently) used to be the Archangel’s pet. It’s rather difficult to justify a flying mount for a being that can fly by itself but I’m sure plenty of WoW fans will love it.
5. Blizzcon – new Diablo III video
Diablo III also gave us some additional footage during Blizzcon, this time featuring the one of the big boys you’re going to face in the game. Hisn ame is Azmodan, Lord of Sin and he and his minions are searching for the Black Soulstone.
4. Bizzcon – new Starcraft II Heart of the Swarm video
Starcraft II, which is closer and closer to a release of Heart of the Swarm episode gave us a new beautifully made trailer which stars Kerrigan. That’s right folks, Kerrigan gets her return to the center of attention.
3. Mists of Pandaria – pet fights
Blizzcon 2011 tells us World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria will introduce pet fights. I’m not talking about the occasional animations between certain ones, a really interesting mix between Warcraft, Cock fighting and, erm… Pokemon.
2. WoW subscription plan added bonus
Blizzcon seems to like mixing up the scenario quite a lot as not only will subscribers get that particular bonus, but annual subscribers of World of Warcraft will also get a guaranteed spot in beta testing of the next expansion.
1. WoW subscription plan final and best bonus
You can get a free digital copy of Diablo III if you subscribe to annual plan of World of Warcraft. I haven’t done the math to see if it’s really worth it but given how there are millions playing WoW who already have such a subscription and thinking about expanding it that’s quite the treat.
In case you’re as hyped about the Diablo III offer as I like to think you are, the signup link is over here.
Naturally, Blizzcon offered a few more treats than what I’ve listed here as the top ten but I’m going to hand out a honorable mention as well.
So here we go, a honorable mention as one of the greatest pieces of news we saw at Blizzcon 2011 is that Blizzard themselves plan to make an actual version of DotA.
Destined to fight off Dota 2, League of Legends and Heroes of Newerth, a genuine Blizzard version of Defense of the Ancients sounds pretty awesome.
