Taking into account Amazon’s Kindle frenzy and its great selling success, Waterstone’s thought to come up with an e-reader. The device is said to be launched in the spring of 2012 and the company hopes to emulate the success that Barnes&Nobles had with Nook. We shall see whether this e-reader will truly be something.
Details related to the e-reader or to the exact date of its release are not available and Waterstone’s MD, James Daunt, has only stated that:
“We in Waterstone’s need to offer you a digital reader which is at least as good, and preferably substantially better, than that of our internet rival, and you will have a much better buying experience purchasing your books through us.”
This move might be a consequence of the fact that Apple has been selling more Kindle books via Amazon.com than print books. With a success like this, it is obvious that other companies lke Waterstone’s will try to get the same by launching an e-reader.
Given the fact that not long is left till the fourth generation Kindle is launched and the fact that this one will rather take the form of a tablet than that of a simple e-reader, Waterstone’s may have thought of this competing e-reader quite late. In this case, their device would stand out if it came with the same features the fourth generation Kindle is to come up with. Till its release we can only speculate on the e-reader’s specs and wait for new rumors about technical details and the device’s release date.
