By In the modern world, the private space industry is ever-evolving; and when all the ideas seems to be exhausted, the time for hybrid machinery can develop. All the business ideas regarding what to do in Earth’s orbit any beyond now can have a starting point: the rocket plane hybrid.
Funded by Microsoft co-founder, billionaire Paul Allen, this $200 million project could start a new age and act as a giant leap for mankind.
The idea behind this large aerial vehicle is to put almost anyone or anything into orbit in this decade. The designs used will be acquired from two of the most successful inventors in the industry: Elon Musk and Burt Rutan.
Combining Rutan’s SpaceShipOne (the first commercial spacecraft) with Musk’s SpaceX project – the Falcon that is capable of sending payloads such as satellites- Paul Allen’s plan is to create a hybrid between the two magnificent devices.
To make the design even better, Burt Rutan is currently developing a bigger version of his formal project, using no more than six Boeing 747 engines, creating a giant aircraft with a wingspan of 385 feet, also breaking a world record in the process.
In order to assure the success of such a plan, Paul Allen decided to use the expertise of NASA and world’s top scientists for such a fuse of complicated systems to take shape.
Once it’s completed, such a hybrid could be used to complete a lot of tasks, such as transport of commercial payloads, satellites, tourists, space hotels and even (un)manned missions to other planets.
Paul Allen is quite confident in the success of the project, given that the only competition (the Russian Space Institute) is currently charging around $60 million per passenger. According to Microsoft’s co-founder, the new company’s motto is ‘Any orbit, any time.’
Current estimates suggest that such a project will be operational by 2016, with its first costumers being valuable telecoms and governments.
If the project is a success, such a system can offer benefits like flexible, orbital space delivery and could consist a radical improvement of the current space industry.
