I’ve recently been picking on most people who got themselves totally interested and fascinated by the now widely available 3D technology and I may now have to do something very difficult.
I will have to admit I was wrong to take a bit of a stand against 3D technology because of what some researchers recently found out.
3D may be a bit of a headache when it comes to pricing, installation and other tedious practicalities it comes with but it does have one major upside for you that may trump all of the above.
Your brain can cope with 3D better than it can with 2D stuff. Seriously, if you value your brain cells comfort you will be interested in hooking yourself up with some 3D capable stuff around the house.
Pending research from Mindlab, several subjects were hooked up to a device that measures brainwave activity and then put through a few simple processes.
The test had them watch 3D Blu-ray movie and then that same movie in 2D on BR and DVD. Apparently all subjects paid more attention and were more engaged while watching the same movie in 3D.
Just to keep things fair, the tests included 3D movies spread over a variety of genres and styles, not everybody was forced to watch horror.
Since I’m one that’s hard to admit failure I will admit this, the test’s findings regarding 3D technology are significant, to say the least.
On the other hand I can’t help but keep up my end of the bargain, I’m not saying 3D is wrong, but I just don’t think it’s the most important thing on a long term, isn’t it somewhat natural that a 3D movie captures you for more of the time than a 2D one?
You have the great movie, the scenes and the enhanced realism. When you watch a 2D movie you clearly know it’s a movie but when you go for a 3D version you can almost trick yourself as you’re part of the event.
Isn’t it natural for this difference to keep you busy for a longer period of time? I doubt your braincells die more if you watch the same thing in 2D.
