I know Apple isn’t the sort of company that sells anything cheap, in fact Apple uses pretty much the opposite of Walmart’s concept but this bit of news shows that there is still hope.
Steve Jobs and Co. have made refurbished versions of the iPad available only through the online store. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Apple’s refurbished items here’s what you need to know; the refurbished Apple products are basically used products that have been given a sprucing up in preparation for a new customer.
So far, the program included various versions of Apple’s iPod and iPhone but nothing on the recently released and very desirable iPad tablet. This only applied up until today, as the Apple online store will sell you a refurbished iPad for a more reasonable price.
Mind you, while a more reasonable price tag it may be, it’s still not exactly a bargain. According to the price list on the Apple Store website, you can get yourself a refurbished iPad Wi-Fi 16 Gb for as little as $449. At the moment, only the three Wi-Fi models of the Apple iPad are available as refurbished versions. So if you were hoping for a discount on any of the 3G models you’ll have to look someplace else.
The saving on any of refurbished Apple iPads is 50 dollars which equates to 10% off the new version for the 16 Gb version but only 7% for the 64 Gb option. The 32 Gb refurbished iPad sits somewhere in the middle, offering an 8% price cut.
So should you buy one?
I’m not sure, but consider this, with a new battery, a new outer shell, free shipping and a one year warranty on it a refurbished Apple iPad could be quite a deal for the sort of tech fan who missed out on buying Apple’s tablet as a new product.
As always, the Apple Store’s refurbished section is only available in limited supply so if you want to enjoy this sort of deal on an iPad that’s almost new you shouldn’t wait along too much.
