Kindle 3 is one of the best sold items on Amazon this season, making it one of the most popular gifts for Christmas. However, if you are hoping to get one, be careful which protective case you use, as the basic leather one has been know to cause the Kindle to crash and require a manual reboot.
After several people had their devices replaced up to four times, the common factor turned out to be the case. The problem seems to be caused by the metal clips inside the case, used for securing the Kindle. They appear to be to long, thus affecting something inside the Kindle.
The problem only occurred with the Amazon’s basic leather case of $30, and not with other versions Amazon is selling, like the $60 case with a light for nighttime reading. The company is refunding the money for all the purchased cases, no matter how long ago the purchase was made. Some users said they also received a $25 extra as compensation for the case hassle.
Amazon hasn’t made an official statement yet, but if you have this problem with your Kindle, you should address them for a full refund.
