By After legal debates taking place for quite a while, ITC has finally came with a verdict: certain HTC Android smartphones were banned from selling their handsets inU.S.territory.
It has come to this after Apple sewed HTC for using Apple patents in Android smartphones that were distributed in the U.S, as well as other regions. After careful consideration, ITC Judges banned the 721 and 983 as being Apple patents; as a result, HTC won’t be selling these handsets as of 19th of April, 2012. This time was allocated in order for HTC to come up with a solution that may solve their current problems.
Another discussed patent was the 647, but this won’t be a problem for HTC, because a software update is nearly complete, update that would remove the similar UI experience found in iOS. At this point it is unknown what this software update might change and how it could affect users of the 647 patent.
Apple can now rejoice, as Christmas gave them a nice gift: winning a legal was with one of the rival company that is selling products on American soil. Some Apple fans may say that Android is a bad copy of iOS, but this is certainly not the case, since the patents at hand only have reference in data tapping. After a quick research, one can see that all the smartphone manufacturers in the world are using such a feature that offers users the possibility of clicking on phone numbers present via text message or emails.
With lots of possibilities being available, HTC has more than enough time until April to solve this issue and to implement this feature in a new and original way. With this problem gone, HTC can resume sales in theU.S., as allowed by ITC Judge.
All and all, this endless war between companies doesn’t really change much in a direct way, but it is only spreading confusion and negative influence throughout consumers. It would probably be better for all of us if the big companies would spend more time innovating new technologies instead of fighting each other in legal wars that have no positive outcome for anyone.
