Intel Gives Up MeeGo OS?

It seems that Intel has temporarily given up the MeeGo operating system that was developed in asociation with Nokia for tablets and smartphones or at least this is what certain sources claim. Intel says this is temporary, DigiTimes adding that Intel is going to “temporarily discontinue development of its MeeGo OS due to a lack of enthusiasm for the platform from handset and tablet PC vendors.”

Intel will focus on Windows Phone and Android based hardware in 2012 but will still remain “committed to MeeGo and open source, and will continue to work with the community to help develop and meet the needs of customers and end users “.

MeeGo OS didn’t have too much success if we take into account the fact that Nokia gave up the Intel OS in favor of Windows Microsoft Phone 7 though the company was strongly determined to use MeeGo for its smartphones. Apparently, without Nokia’s support of the operating system, Intel won’t be able to have a great success with MeeGo.

Still, the operating system isn’t going to be completely ignored as it will keep on remaining the operating system used for industrial equipment and many in-car devices. We may not find a consumer device running MeeGo but we will have the possibility to enjoy this operating system with the above mentioned devices. And as far as these are concerned, Intel claims that MeeGo is doing its job quite well.
