It seems that HTC has confirmed the fact that the company is considering to buy a mobile operating system in order to make itself different from what’s now on the market. As Economic Observer Of China says, HTC takes all the necesasry time when it comes to this matter. That’s because the company wants to pick the best alternative to the current operating systems it uses, Android and Windows Phone. Plus, HTC wants to give its users something different and this surely means a difficult task.
HTC’s Cher Wang has stated that “we have given it thought and we have discussed it internally, but we will not do it on impulse ” and added that:
“We can use any OS we want. We are able to make things different from our rivals on the second or third layer of a platform. Our strength lies in understanding an OS, but it does not mean that we have to produce an OS.”
This seems to be the right move after HP announced to cease the production of webOS devices and there are chances for HTC to purchase webOS since the operating system enjoys quite some market exposure and HP is open to offers.
The impending litigation that is aimed at HTC and Android can also have made HTC take this decision. If HTC is to pay a high fee for using the operating system, then it is normal for the company to want to have its own operating system.
