HTC has just announced the first wave of smartphones that will get the Ice Cream Sandwhich upgrade. The anouncement has been made through a post on the company’s Facebook page. This is not something unusual when it comes to the Taiwan-based company that decided to let fans know what devices would receive the upgrade via the social network mentioned.
The announcement brings both good news and bad news. The good news is that all new phones will be upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwhich. The less appealing news is that not all phones running Android 2.3 Gingerbread will be upgraded to the latest version of the mobile operating system.
So, the devices that will get the Ice Cream Sandwhich update include: HTC EVO 3D, HTC Amaze 4G, HTC EVO Design 4G, HTC Sensation, HTC Sensation XE, HTC Sensation XL, HTC Rezound and HTC Vivid. The upgrade will come to these devices in the first quarter of the next year. The smartphones that are not included in the list above will most probably be upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwhich after Q1 2012.
The latest version on the operating system will come to high-end HTC smartphones as you’ve probably figured it out. Even so, there will be developers who will try to bring Ice Cream Sandwhich to other less powerful phones. But as the post reads, this is only the first wave of devices upgradeable to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwhich:
“HTC knows how excited our fans are to get their hands on Google’s latest version of Android, Ice Cream Sandwich, so we’re thrilled today to announce the first wave of HTC phones that will receive upgrades. “
HTC didn’t mention anything about the Flyer tablet for instance. We don’t know if this will be in the second or third wave of devices to be upgraded to ICS. In this case, we can only check the company’s Facebook page on a regular basis and see if other devices will be mentioned.
Related to HTC devices, you should know that HTC Vivid can now be purchased with a $100 discount from AT&T. The device was initially available for $199,99 and can now be purchased for $99,99 on a two-year contract. HTC Vivid is among the devices to be upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwhich. Therefore, is worth having it.
