It seems that history is indeed repeating with this new Apple’s loss of an iPhone prototype just before its launch. You probably remember the loss of the iPhone 4 prototype before its release last year. Well the same happened with the long waited for iPhone 5.
An Apple employee has accidentally left the iPhone 5 prototype in a tequilla lounge named Cava 22 in San Francisco at the end of July. After this unfortunate incident, Apple has contacted the police to help the company get the phone back telling them that the device is priceless.
The company traced the iPhone 5 prototype to the Bernal Heights neighbourhood but the man whose house seemed to be the new location of the phone has denied having such a device but has akcnowledged to have been at Cava 22 the same night the phone was lost. There are sources even claiming that Apple offered the man money for the safe return of the device but he still denied to have been in possession of the phone.
There’s no information related to how Apple was able to trace the device but we can assume that the company has used the Find My iPhone service or another tool that was specially installed on the prototype. Rumors have it that the iPhone 5 prototype may have been sold for no more no less than $200 on Graiglist.
Though Apple has been protective of iPhone prototypes, we can only say that the company hasn’t actually succeeded in keeping the iPhone prototype in safe hands.
