Touchscreen fanatics beware, the following item contains information that may potentially affect your heart rate or even your bowel movement.
What we have here is the world’s largest touchscreen and this isn’t no marketing palaver, it’s the real stuff. The touchscreen in question is basically an entire wall.
Exact dimensions come in at 10 meters by 2.8 meters or 32.8 feet by 9.2 feet. Since I know that nowadays the size of a touchscreen isn’t probably the most impressive thing for you is the rest of the description also makes this the world’s most impressive touchscreen.
The “wall-screen” can recognize up to 100 touch points simultaneously. Since this is actually as big as a wall, it can accommodate 10 people working on it at the same time. And if one other would wish to supervise these chaps at work, the touchscreen has a curvature of 135 degrees.
And with this sort of description you can probably anticipate what this touchscreen is going to be used for. It’s the stand in for a chalkboard at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands.
Most of us would see this sort of screen be used on aircraft carriers or something at Nasa but in actuality it’s used to help teach maths and computer science.
When you get down to the hard science of the touchscreen it has the following specs:
- a resolution of 4900×1700
- 1000 infrared LEDs
- 120Hz stereo
- 6 Optitrack cameras
- a latency of 50ms
I will admit, the latter isn’t the most impressive of stats if you’re a hardcore gamer but to be honest i doubt anybody will be able to play video games on this screen.
If you’re able to look past that, your inner geek would easily appreciate the specs on the world’s largest touchscreen just as much as you could appreciate the size it has.
