Google BUZZ proves to be Buzzkill

Recently accused of trying to take on Apple by going into the phone business, Google continues the way to world domination by introducing a new service: Google Buzz. With the short excerpt on their blog talking about the expansion of the online interactions in terms of social relations, they explain the need to enter this challenge of managing the “social web”.

To make it easier, Google has implemented the new feature directly into Gmail. Buzz offers the possibility of a rapid and well-off sharing experience with the possibility of making the share public or private, integration with the inbox to make following and organizing information more accessible, a spam filter, real-time comments, recommendations (friends of friends).

One of the things Google has included as a feature has been though categorized as a major security flaw: the fact that followers are set by default based on the frequency of communication between them. While apparently an advantage, many do not like the list of their contacts to be public for anybody that visits one profile. A confirmation screen to warn the user that such data will be made public and maybe changing the default option in not sharing any sensitive data would be great. Considering the recent events and the major importance of security over the Internet, this is a big fail for Google, causing users to ask how to uninstall the feature.

There are many other options to Google Buzz yet, to which people are more familiar, like Twitter and Yahoo Updates, for instance.

An interesting aspect of this new Google service is the mobile application for Android and iPhone that includes features like location detection by using GPS, voice input, Buzz Maps Layer – to help find hotspots.

As for the moment, Google Buzz does not prove worthy of its adversaries. But we’ll keep an eye out and give you a buzz when that happens.
