Golden Joystick Awards 2011 short list

The coveted Golden Joystick Awards of 2011 have just announced their winners. Each and every one is a very important award as its the result of user votes.

In order of announcement, here comes the shortlist of winners, each teamed with a snide comment from yours truly.

A 2011 Golden Joystick Award for the best Action/Adventure game went to Assassin’s Creed: Brooterhood. Despite hopes of “something else” winning, the result can’t be argued with.

Another Golden Joystick given out this year went to Angry Birds Rio for the best mobile game. I’m sure 80% of bathrooms and smartphones around the world will confirm this.

The Golden Joystick Award for the best RPG went to Fallout New Vegas. Whatever snide comment I would have gone with it would’ve been pointless.

According to voters of the Golden Joystick Award of 2011 the best MMO is World of Warcraft. Frankly, I really cheered for World of Tanks, but a Blizzard giant is hard to fight against, especially as they’ve made it partially free.

Best fighting game according to the Golden Joystick Awards went to Mortal Kombat. It would have been a fatality to see any other title win.

Racing games however, seem to be a bit controversial at the Golden Joystick 2011 Awards as the winner ended up being Gran Turismo 5 and it seems that not everybody is pleased with the result. It doesn’t matter as I think GT5 is better than Forza 4.

Almost predictably, the best Sports game went to FIFA 11 though I suspect next year things will be a lot closer between PES 2012 and FIFA 12 which seemingly means that the Golden Joystick Awards will be somewhat different.

The best strategy game of 2011 was awarded to another of Blizzard’s titles, StarCraft: Wings of Liberty. Damn right!

Music went to Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock, Free to play went to “DotA inspired” League of Legends, best downloadable went to Minecraft and none of these categories really matter.

Portal 2

Two of the less than interesting moments of the Golden Joystick Awards of 2011 went to Sonic for the most Outstanding contribution and to the 3DS for being the “Innovation of the year”.

The final two awards for simple categories in gaming goes to some very popular titles:

Golden Joystick Awards 2011, One To Watch went to Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

and

The best Shooter title was snatched up by Call of Duty: Black Ops. I’d like to argue, maybe with both titles but even I’m aware of what a mistake that would be.

And finally, the absolute winner of the Golden Joystick Awards of 2011 went to Portal 2, which is a surprise not for winning, but for winning no category other than that.
