Recently there’s been a bit of a buzz about a brand new product from the Halo franchise, a movie, one that’s to be done by Dreamworks and Steven Spielberg.
Plenty of other rumors about a Halo movie but this one was different as it was a misprint on an official website and it really got enthusiasts all hyped up.
In the end, it turned out that the Halo movie rumor was once again, nothing more than a rumor as Gamespot got in touch with Microsoft and disproved the Halo film possibility.
Ok then, Microsoft is certainly not going to be making any movie as they are too busy with Halo 4, the Anniversary edition and, I’m guessing here, celebrating the disappearance of Steve Jobs from the competition list.
If I’m honest though, the fact that there’s no Halo movie coming out isn’t that bad since it would most likely simply be something so terrible that it either makes people hate the franchise or just go back to the game in search of something actually good.
There’s no living example of a gaming inspired movie that was great or at least capable of getting a “pretty good” rating.
At the moment, only one thing still keeps hope in the hearts of those who are gamers and movie fans alike, it once again comes from Blizzard, a company we’ve established we need, and it is to be the World of Warcraft movie.
Rumored for some time now, only recently (2010, 2011) did we get to see (hear about) some progress that’s actually been made on it.
The first movie script was thrown out for some reason, a director was found (though not the first pick, but there you go) and there’s even some serious movie stars that have been announced to be involved.
According to some reports, the World of Warcraft movie is supposed to include actors like David Wenham, Mila Kunis and Liam Neeson to begin with.
Sure, there’s no proof that a good cast will make for a great movie since plenty of examples have gone before with enormous Hollywood names involved and none of them were really that good.
Which leaves me wondering: Is there really a market or need for a gaming inspired movie?
