By Yesterday I wrote about two things, being geeky and smartphones. I think today I’ll try to combine the two posts.
Samsung, the company that makes the Galaxy S has a few more products. Apart from the Android running smartphone, Samsung makes a tablet PC called the Galaxy Tab.
I’ll leave aside the fact that many geeks call these products knockoffs for the Apple iPhone and iPad and carry on. The products are considerably different yet they do have one thing in common. Either of them you go for, you’ll be considered a common dork.
So you’re thinking, you’re a mild geek, and you want a Samsung Galaxy Tab. Moving on to the Samsung Galaxy Tab we already know it’s a pretty capable ebook reader, tablet pc/whatever else you may call it and it runs Google’s Android OS.
Or does it? A few gents that are even bigger geeks than me or you managed to get a Samsung Galaxy Tab to run with a Linux Ubuntu operating system.

That sounds like it’s amazing but in actual fact it’s not that brilliant. First of all, the actual hardware within the Samsung Galaxy Tab isn’t fully compatible with the Linux operating system. Secondly, there’s the problem of installation.
To get Linux Ubuntu installed on the Samsung Galaxy Tab you’ll need a few programs like Busybox, Superuser, the Android SDK, AndroidVNC and Terminal Emulator. Thirdly, and perhaps more problematic than the first two, Ubuntu has issues running on the Samsung Galaxy Tab.
But hey, if you’re the sort of guy who’s so geeky that you want to spend hours installing and fixing something that isn’t necessarily broken this is for you. Just lookup the Android community and join them in being uber geeks.
