I don’t know how you feel but for me, if it has LEDs on it, it’s a gadget one way or another. That’s what’s happened with these very cool skateboards.
Mind you, when I say cool, I’m clearly referring to us dorks who really like our stuff as techy as they come. Professional skateboarders or street cred hunters may want to shop around for something with an LED count that’s closer to 0.
Since I’m not a real or anywhere near to being professional skateboarder I reckon this is a great idea and it has immense promise.
These transportation gadgets are a little rich for my skateboarding blood, but in at 200 dollars a pop it’s roughly as much as some custom boards may end up costing even without the complete professional equipment.
LED Skateboards all come in a pretty much standard 29 x 8.5″ size and use a 9 Volt battery to keep being cool and on. Weirdly for this sort of skateboard customization, the LED gadget fitted creations are made by a corporation called Flexdex and not some maniac in a shed.
Apparently, once you check the actual fine print of the Flexdex LED skateboards you find that they are reasonably performing products. Apart from the Clear29LT LEDs you get ABEC5 racing bearings and 9 inch high response gullwing mission trucks, whatever that means.
My curiosity is about how quiet the wheels on these LED skateboards can get because i’d love to be seen floating around at night on an LED light hovering plate. I’d get all Back To The Future feeling like.
Sadly, the manufacturer doesn’t really say much about the quietness of the rollers but I’ll have to settle for the LED skateboard having translucent wheels.
Predictably, the most important bit of this skateboard is the LED housing, the deck. In true gadget fashion, it’s made out of state of the art polycarb compounds.
