If there is one thing most phones can’t do better than the real thing, it’s digital photography. Granted, recent phones like the Iphone 4 have better performing sensors, but they still can’t compare to a true DSLR. Well, not until now that is.
With the iPhone SLR Mount you can attach your Nikon or Canon EOS SLR lenses to your phone and instantly upgrade it from a mere phone camera to a DSLR camera (sort of). Thus, your phone gets manual focus and depth of field, but no autofocus. According to the store page, other possible attachments are telephoto, wide angle, macro, or fixed-fifty lenses.
The result looks comically huge, and people will stare when you take this out at the next concert you attend. The case has two loopholes where you can attach a camera strap and hang the whole ensemble from your neck, just like a normal DSLR. The seller mentions that the case is made from durable aluminum, but you can’t help notice how flimsy it looks when attached to a lens. Also, another disadvantage is that all photos taken through those lenses are upside-down. Normally, cameras have a mirror inside which flips the image, but the Iphone’s camera is mirror-less, so you’ll have’ to use an image editing app for each photo to rotate it right side up.
You can get the SLR Mount from Photojojo for 249$. A bit pricey, considering that what you’re paying for is merely a case with a hole in it where you stick your SLR lens, if you previously owned one, that is. Even with a SLR lens, your Iphone can’t compare with even the low-end DSLR’s out there, so take that into consideration before buying.
