Cut Gran Turismo 5 Loading Time by 50%

Since Gran Turismo 5 was one of the most eagerly awaited racing game for PlayStation 3 and sales of it exploded this little trick could be very interesting.

Basically, if you’re one of the 5.52 million of people who bought Gran Turismo 5 for your PlayStation 3 you could be very interested in bumping up the speed the game achieves for you.

I know Polyphony Digital promised you 60 fps in full HD but that’s not the speed I mean. Apparently, some really logical thinking people found a great trick that can improve your loading speed in Gran Turismo 5.

In order to get this trick working for you here’s what you need:

  1. Sony’s PlayStation 3 Console in regular form (this won’t work for the slim version)
  2. Gran Turismo 5 (just as obvious as before)
  3. A hard drive that uses SSD technology.

The last part of the list is possibly the most important. The SSD powered hard drives have been known to offer significant speed gains over more traditional technology.

Given that the PlayStation 3 uses a traditional Sata HDD, adding a SSD device will give you a significant power gain. But exactly how much of a power gain will that be?

Well, given some initial tests and verifications, the drop in load time between the two hardware solutions can be of at least 30%. That’s the minimum, the fastest possible performance means that you get 50% lower load times than before with Gran Turismo 5.

Check out the table below for some references:

I’d say the results say it all. There’s however one slight problem with this guide. Yes by installing a new SSD in your PS3 you gain significant performance with Gran Turismo 5 (and any other game for that matter) but an SSD is quite costly.

Changing between an SSD and a regular SATA hard drive shouldn’t be a problem but paying extra for the SSD is up to you.
