Facebook Adds Subscribe Feature

If yesterday we were letting you know about Facebook’s Friend List upgrade, today we want you to know that the social network has just added the Subscribe feature. What’s great about this is that Facebook will give you the possibility to follow the activities of people that are not in your friend list and that you don’t intend to add even if you’re interested in them.

So, with the new Subscribe feature, you will get public updates from people you may not know personally without having to send them a friend request. The feature, which is similar to the one we find on Twitter and Google+, allows Facebook users to follow those celebrities, famous people or just simple people they are interested in.

Facebook says that this is a great way to control which of your friends’ posts are shown up in your news feed. So, the Subscribe feature will enable you to subscribe to the posts of those people you want to know more about.

Zach Rait from Facebook states that:

“Until now, it hasn’t been easy to choose exactly what you see in your News Feed.  Maybe you don’t want to see every time your brother plays a game on Facebook, for example. Or maybe you’d like to see more stories from your best friends, and fewer from your coworkers. You also couldn’t hear directly from people you’re interested in but don’t know personally—like journalists, artists and political figures. With the Subscribe button, we’re making it easier to do both.”

In order to enjoy this feature, you will have to go to the Facebook logo subscriptions settings page and choose whether you want to have a Subscribe button or not.
