Apple’s iPad will have a new rival on the market, as Dell prepares the launch of a new hybrid tablet-laptop device called Inspiron Duo some time next week. The 10-inch Duo can be easily turned from a tablet to a netbook and vice-versa. All you have to do is to open the casing, flip the screen and voila, a tablet. The reverse action gives you back the netbook.
This is not the first gadget of its kind. Hewlett-Packard released their Elite Book, but it is primarily a laptop, not no mention its rather high price.
Inspiron Duo’s direct rival is certainly Apple’s iPad, as can be seen from a statement made by a Dell executive: “There are times that you have to do work. Tablets are great for entertainment, but they aren’t exactly conducive to productivity,” said Dave Zavelson in September when Inspiron Duo concept was first launched.
Dell Inspiron Duo will be powered by Intel Atom processors and will be running Windows 7. It will be available on the Dell site, but the pricing details are unavailable yet.
