With some reluctance, Acer came into the smartphone game. But being Acer, they don’t have the same brand image in the world of mobile phones as other manufacturers do.
Acer realized this and since they came into the game last year without too much success they went for a different approach. Acer teamed up with Ferrari to name their new smartphone.
Since everybody who’s got a laptop heard of Acer and everybody who’s got a car knows about Ferrari this is quite a meeting place. The brand image of the new smartphone is there.
But it’s not just the brand image, the Acer & Ferrari smartphone runs Google’s Android operating system. Just a few days ago Android became the second most popular smartphone OS in the world.
Given Acer always came up with price cutting solutions while offering reasonable technology this could be it. The Acer & Ferrari Android smartphone could just be the gadget the Taiwanese company has been waiting for.
Acer may be a new comer to the mobile scene but they have big ambitions. The company hopes to grasp 6-7% of the smartphone market in a few years.
Seeing the sort of effect Ferrari branded products have, this may just be a great first step for Acer.
