Maybe you find this hard to believe, but sales of mobile apps including games also, could surpass $6bn this year. Gartner experts predict for this year that number of downloaded apps will increase from 2500 in 2009, to 4500.
Last year revenue from downloaded applications achieved $4.2bn, but is expected to exceed $29bn by 2013 and to achieve $6.2bn in 2010. It seems that network operators and mobile phone manufacturers desperately want to follow Apple`s Store huge success because they see that users are willing to spend significant amounts on mobile phone apps and current mobile applications represent just a small part of what is possible on mobile phones.
Apple`s officials are confident that the competition isn`t a threat for the moment. In the last 18 months, more than 3bn applications from Apple`s store have been downloaded. The most successful paid-for application is now Doodle Jump.
As smartphones grow in popularity and application stores become the main point of attraction for many people, more consumers will benefit from increasingly interesting applications, leading to a higher profit for development companies.
