Many of you are probably anxious for the Android Ice Cream Sandwich to be launched and thus for the Android multiple versions frenzy to be over. The good news is that the software will most probably be launched in October/November according to Eric Schmidt, Google’s executive chairman.
Ice Cream Sandwich was announced earlier this year but there was no specific release date. At the Dreamforce conference in San Francisco, Schmidt has been a little more specific stating that:
“We have a new operating system, internally known as Ice Cream Sandwich for some reason, which is being released in October/November, which everyone’s really excited about.”
Why everyone is so excited about this Android update? Well, the Ice Cream Sandwich version of Android is considered to bring to an end all the chaos of the multiple Android versions. Being a combination of elements of the Honeycomb tablet software and those of the Gingerbread smartphone, Ice Cream Sandwich should be an “unifying” OS.
With so many devices running so many versions of the software, is no wonder that Apple got criticised for all the Android operating system’s fragmentations. With Ice Cream Sandwich, it is said that all these “ills” will be brought to an end. Rumors have it that Samsung Nexus Prime will be the first device to run Ice Cream Sandwich. We can only wait and see whether all of this is true or not.
