Yes, that’s right! AMD finally brings out the FX processors line! Many of you have probably waited for this to happen since long ago and now that the Bulldozer-based FX processors are out and about, we thought some details related to them would do just great!
Intended “to cater to people who want maximum performance and upgradability”, these FX processors use the microarchitecture of the new Bulldozer processor. The FX line includes seven processs: FX-8150, FX-8120, FX-8100, FX-6100, FX-4170, FX-B4150 and FX-4100. Another good thing about these processors is that they are fully unlocked. So, you won’t need the Black Edition anymore.
The FX processors will use the existing AM3-motherboard socket and will feature up to 8 cores. No, you haven’t misread! AMD is bringing the first 8-core desktop solution. And if you think that the price will be high, I have to let you know that you’re wrong. The fastest processor in the line, FX-8150, will be available for $245. So, AMD will offer all these processors at an affordable price.
The flagship processor of the FX line is FX-8150. This one features a base frequency of 3.6GHz coming with CPU Max Turbo of 4.2GHz and CPU Turbo Core of 3.9GHz. FX-8150 sports 8 cores, an 8MB L2 + 8MB L3 cache having a 125-watt TDP.
You may wonder what the two turbo modes stand for. Well, they actually represent the highest speed that FX-8150 can reach at different levels of load. So, when all cores are active, then CPU Turbo is the maximum turbo that can be achieved. When only half of the cores are active, then CPU Max Turbo can be achieved.
More details to come the next days. So, stay tuned!
