Alien Mouse by Mizanur Rehman – An Ergonomic Concept

Just like other gadgets that never reached the production stage (much like the Ply mobile), the Alien Mouse concept has been around for a while. Without much hope of ever seeing this device mass produced and released for the general public, it is still worth mentioning. Not only does it have a unique exterior design, but its functionality is also well devised.

The first thing you’ll obviously notice is the mouse’s aesthetics. Having the thought of making an ergonomic device, the designer, Mizanur Rehman, divided the mouse into several parts, each meant to support a different part of your forearm and hand. Having a body made of cellulose and soft gel, would make this a mouse that would reduce stress and prevent RSI (Repetitive strain injury) – which you probably aren’t even worried about until you experience them.

The Alien Mouse’s frame is created to be adjustable, molding on each user’s hand size. Moreover, to further the relaxation when using the device, it will give off mild vibrations when the user is engaged in continuous clicking.

Made similar to the human hand, each of its parts performs different functions to make the experience more comfortable. The middle component is responsible for the vibrations, while the top sphere will deal with clicking. Just like with a regular mouse, a left or right click is possible to obtain the desired interaction with the computer. The pointer movement is handled by the joystick in the middle, which is doubled by using optical infrared, thus considerably reducing your hand’s movement.

The connection with the computer would be wireless or via USB 2.0, but this hasn’t been explicitly considered or implemented. While this is more than a good-looking concept, it is sad there is a high possibility you will never actually get to use it. And while there are other well designed mice, the Alien Mouse is one of the few that has an enhanced practical component added to it.
