911 to Accept SMS, MMS and Video in the Future

I’m not sure which way to go on this but you should know that the emergency call center for 911 will be updated soon.

Apparently, the future of emergency 911 calls includes more than simple phone calls. Future 911 alert centers will be ready to dispatch a team upon receiving an SMS, MMS message or even more.

I’ve never required a 911 service but I’m pretty puzzled at the idea of having enough time in an emergency to text somebody. Even more difficult a situation is taking a photo of the problem or filming it.

If it’s a rush situation perhaps a more traditional phone call will be more useful. Upon giving this a second thought it does seem to make sense to keep updating the 911 service.

I mean, if you discover an accident, calling 911 and filming the situation will definitely be faster than actually telling people what’s going on. And just as the video idea works well so would a photo sent via the MMS service.

There’s also quite a good situation for 911 emergency calls when you gather evidence in silence against the attacker.

The 911 call center modernization will soon go one step further. Future plans for the 911 include receiving distress calls from OnStar equipped vehicles with a bit of a twist.

If the 911 emergency call making of the future will be linked to OnStar vehicles they will feature various sensors and detectors. Those sensors and detectors will be able to ping the 911 service with information about what’s going on immediately.

Case in point, if you have an accident and there’s a fuel leak, by the time you come back out of the shock a crew is already well under way.
