Microsoft decided to give away 25 of its Windows Phones to those BlackBerry users unhappy with their device. The PC guy from Microsoft has tweeted about this saying that: “Dear Blackberry users, frustrated with your BB? Tell me why your want to upgrade to a Windows Phone – I’ve got 25 to give away”.
It seems that Microsoft has created a tradition out of this. You probably remember the fact that the senior director of Microsoft’s Windows Phone development, Brandon Watson has actually bet no more no less than $1000 on the Windows Phone 7. He has made this bet with Scott Adams, the author of Dilbert.
The idea was that if Adams found Windows Phone 7 as not being that great, then Watson would have donated the money to a charity that Adams was to choose. All this ended up with Adams being more than impressed with the device given by Watson.
Microsoft did something similar when giving weOS developers the chance to test a Windows Phone in order to develop applications. In less than one day, a number of 500 webOS developers actually accepted Microsoft’s offer.
The idea Microsoft has come up with and that regards the BlackBerry users comes immediately after the BB BES and BIS services have been interrupted for three days in Middle East, Africa, India and Europe and for one day in U.S, Latin America and Canada. During these days, the BlackBerry users couldn’t receive BBM messages or mail and couldn’t surf the web. So, 25 of these users will have the chance to get a Windows Phone.
