We all know how annoying updates can be. Some of you might even get stuck on certain Windows updates. So, if you’re having difficulties in installing Windows updates on your Vista PC, then here’s a post that might help you.
There have been PC users to claim to have had problems when installing different Windows updates on their Vista PC. They say that everything went just fine with the first update but then it stalled on the second update. After rebooting the PC, the second updated installed successfully but then it happened again with the third one. The computer stalled again and refused to boot into Windows.
If you find yourself in this situation, then here’s what you have to do:
1. Well, one method that should work is to boot from your Windows Vista installation disc . This should have come with your computer.
2. Now choose the language and make sure to select “Repair Your Computer”.
3. After that, the installer will search for any Windows systems that reside on your hard drive. In case, there’s only one of these, you’ll have to click Next.
4. You should then see the recovery selections. Make sure you select the Startup Repair.
5. Follow the steps that the installer will provide you with in order to boot with Windows.
6. In case this doesn’t work, you should select the Command Prompt from the recovery options. You will see an interface and you will have to enter the following commands
C:
cd c:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution
ren Download Download.old
Keep in mind that you should substitute C: for the letter of the drive on which Windows is installed. Make sure to press Enter after each line.
This action will make Windows back up all your pending updates. It will then move them and allow the operating system to start up normally. Once this happens, you’ll be able to install all the updates individually by using Windows Update.
