If you’re the owner of an Android tablet or phone you’re probably aware of the fact that the battery is not quite a plus. The Android-powered devices need to be charged quite frequently but that’s no wonder anymore since the operating system uses different heavy applications and services. So, today we’ll focus on how to improve the battery of your Android tablet.
Even if tablets should not have the same battery issues as phones, those based on Android might raise some problems in this matter. It is somehow normal for phones to need to be charged more frequently if we take into account all their fetching and syncing. But when it comes to tablets, users expect them to have a better battery that would allow them to last even for a week.
In the case of an iPad, there’s still battery left even if the tablet has not been used for a week. Consuming no power when left untouched, the iPad becomes thus one of the best options in this matter.
In the case of Android tablets, things are a different. It is said that the battery life issues in the case of Android tablets are related to some “phone services” that are baked into this operating system. Even if they shouldn’t be present, they are and they do eat up a lot of your Android tablet (this is available in the case of Android 2.3 and older versions, we do not know if Android 4.0 solves this issue).
CNet reports that after removing these phone services from a Samsung Galaxy Wi-Fi, the battery life of this device has been significantly improved. So, doing the same with your Android tablet might actually help you a lot. First of all, you’ll have to root your Android tablet. If you don’t know how to do that, go for one of the online tutorials that will provide you with the necessary information in this matter.
Do not go for the method described below if you’re not sure about it or if it seems kind of vague to you. So, here are the steps you will have to follow in order to improve the battery of your Android tablet:
1. The first thing to do is to install FireExpert on your Android powered tablet. You can get it for free from the Android Market.
2. You’ll then have to run the program and allow Superuser access.
3. After that, you’ll have to go to Menu, then to Settings and then to File Explorer Settings. Here, you’ll have to enable Root Explorer.
4. Once you do that, make sure you go to /data/data folder. Here you will have to find com.android.phone. When you find it, tap and hold on it and then go to File Operations and hit Delete.
5. Make sure you get back to the top-level directory (/) and then to system/app.
6. After you do this, you will have to tap the Menu button. Now select Mount and then Mount as Read Write.
7. Go to Phone.apk by scrolling down. Once you find it, make sure you tap and hold it and then select File Operations. Hit Delete after that. Now restart your Android-based tablet and there you go.
Your battery life should now be improved once the phone services are removed. Let us know in the comments box below whether this methods works or not. If there’s another way to improve the Android tablets you’re familiar with, then don’t hesitate to share it with us.
