By This year at WWDC, the annual event for developers, Apple presented the new iOS 5. Available for iDevices, iOS 5 brings more than 200 features for the iPad, iPhone and iPad Touch users. Moreover, software developers will also benefit from this new software since iOS 5 offers more than 1,500 interfaces for application programming (API). iOS 5 will be available for the 3rd and 4th generation iPod Touch, iPad and iPad 2, iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4.
One of the features that iOS 5 brings is the Notification Center menu that will reunite all the notifications for each application you installed. You just have to touch your device’s display and thus get access to this menu. Another feature of this new software is the iMessage that will be available to iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. This feature will have options that will allow you to send video/text messages and group/photos messages. Coming with stamps, iMessage will let the user know when the message was sent and when it was read. There will be a new message menu where you will be able to see if the person you’re chatting with is active or not.
Other features include a new-to-do system known as Reminders, a built-in set up wizard that will eliminate the need for a computer connection in order to configure the handset and enhancements to Mobile Safari.
If you don’t want to wait till the whole iOS 5 package is released, that is in autumn, but you do want to update your iPhone 4 to iOS 5, then you’re reading the right article. Even if you don’t have a developer account, you can do that since some smart guys have discovered this strange way of activating an iPhone 4 that was updated to iOS 5, but that doesn’t have the UDID registered to a developer account.
So, all those iPhone 4 owners who want to make this update should follow the steps below very closely without skipping any of them. Before doing this installation of iOS 5 on your iPhone 4, let’s see how this firmware version can be donwloaded and installed on your device:
1. The new iOS 5 is already on torrents, so the first thing to do is to search for it and download it.
2. When the iOS 5 download is complete, you will have to transfer it from your computer to your iPhone 4 and install it using iTunes. So, connect your iDevice to your computer using the USB data cable. While holding the “Shift” key pressed, click the “Check Update” button in iTunes. Now locate the donwloaded iOS 5 IPSW file and select it.
3. Now you’ll just have to wait until your device is updated to iOS 5 firmware version. When this process is completed, an activation screen will be displayed on your iPhone 4.
Normally, this is when you need the developer account and pay for it in order to activate the iOS 5 on your device but this method will spare you from this if you just follow carefully the next steps:
1. Open the “Voice Over” menu on your iPhone 4 by pressing the “Home” button three times.
2. When this menu opens, you will have to press the “Home” button three more times. Another menu will be displayed now and you will have to select the “Emergency Call”. A new window will be opened.
3. Open the “Notification Center” and open the “Weather” application from here.
4. Now press the “Home” button once more and leave the weather application. This should lead to the activation of iOS 5.
When you enter the system, you will have to close the “Voice Over” application and now you will be able to use iOS 5. You must keep in mind the fact that you need to own iPhone 4 to do this update and the device must be factory unlocked. Otherwise, this whole process won’t work.
