By iOS 5 users probably know about the fact that a hidden panoramic camera mode of the operating system has just been discovered by an iPhone hacker. Once this feature is enabled, iPhone users can take continous photos. After the iOS 5 panorama mode has been discovered, users started to wonder how could they enable it. So, here’s what you have to do in order to enable your iOS 5 panorama camera.
Enabling the panorama camera in iOS 5 supposes two big steps: editing the system .plist file and then writing that back on the device. Still, you should know that there might be a downside of this method if you’re not comfortable enough with troubleshooting this kind of issues. Now that you know you’ll do this at your own risk, we can go further on and see what must be done in order to enable the panorama camera in iOS 5.
1. Since you cannot backup your device to iCloud, you’ll have to make an iTunes backup of your device.
2. The next thing to do is to download iBackupBot. When the download completes, make sure you install it.
3. Once iBackupBot has finished installing, you’ll have to open it. When you do so, you should see your backup.
4. Now in order to have access to system files, you have to open the backup.You will see a list that you’ll have to scroll through till you find the following file:
Library/Preferences/com.apple.mobileslideshow.plist
5. In order to open this file, you wil have to double-click on it. You might see a registration dialog for iBackupBot. In case you do, all you have to do is to click Cancel.
6. After that, you will have to scroll down the file till you reach the bottom of it and you see the following entry:
DiskSpaceWasLow
Under this entry, you will have to edit:
EnableFirebreak
YES
Once that is done, you will have to save the file and then close it.
5. In the iBackupBot, there’s a Restore button. Click on it in order to restore your iOS 5 device. You won’t have to worry because by doing this restoration, none of your applications or settings will be lost.
6. Once your device has been restored, you will have to go to your Camera application. Open it and then press the Options button. A new button should be now available, that is the Panorama button.
7. You will see a new UI for capturing a panoramic photo when you press the Panorama button. In order for you to take a panoramic photo, all you have to do is to follow the instructions that will appear on the screen.
The photos’ quality will depend on the device you use. The tests made on an iPad 2 led to kind of choppy photos. That’s probably the reason why this feature didn’t have an official release. Still, the quality of the photos may vary.
