Portal 2 – Get Your CD Key / Serial Number [No Cracks or Keygens]

Continuing the story from the first game, Portal 2 uses the same basic mechanics with new harder levels, having several additions for complex puzzles. If you are here, you probably already bought, installed and played Portal 2. And now you realize you lost the CD Key. If you either bougth a license from the internet (for example from Steam), or you purchased a hard copy from your local store, you were provided with a Serial Number. This tutorial will help you retrieve it from the registry location where it is kept safe.

To search your registry for the right location where the key is stored, you have two options. For beginners, or inexperienced users, you can use several programs for automatic search. If you are an advanced users, or the initial automatic search did not turn any results, feel free to follow the second method and manually search for the serial number. After finding it in your computer, you should make sure you will keep it in a safe place, as you will not be able to find it if you uninstall the game or format your HDD. If you did not legally purchased the game, and own an illegal copy, FinestDaily is unable to provide you with cracks or cd key generators.

Portal 2 – A Quick Review (Warning! May contain spoilers!)

Portal 2 was created by Valve and takes place in the same universe as Half-Life, with many years between the stories in the two franchises. Available for Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, the game was released on April 19, 2011.

Portal 2 – Infinte Portals

If you played the first Portal, you are probably already accustomed with the unique game mechanics and you surely gained the skills to see the world “in portals”. Just like the first one, the game is a third person puzzler, where you have to jump, run, move objects and of course, create portals. In this game the portal gun is retrieved much faster, leaving the player with fewer tutorial stages. You are still playing with Chell, who was apparently “stored” in a stasis chamber, until she is woken up by Wheatley. Wheatley, a former Intelligence Dampening Sphere attached to GLaDOS, is currently a free roaming Personality Construct, to be more specific he’s a moron wondering around in the complex.

When the entire testing complex is falling apart, Chell finds Wheatley at the front door of her room. He’s the one offering her guidance in the early stages of the game, but his lowered intelligence will eventually lead to him accidentally repairing GlaDOS and waking her up. Portal 2 gives you more and more advanced chambers, and at one point you realize that actually Wheatley and GlaDOS switch places, him being the one trying to kill you, and her ending up as your guide. Around this moment, the game will also give you bigger rooms and additional gameplay elements, including 3 types of gel (for running, for jumping and for creating portals), suspended bridges and many more.

Unlike the first game, Portal 2 offers you a coop campaign, where you and your friend can control 2 robots, each with its own portal guns, and solve even more advanced puzzles together. Having the same elements from the singleplayer, the campaign will start with baby steps, including a quick tutorial. However, this time you have to think about 4 portals at a time and learn how to work together with your friend.

Retrieving the CD Key / Serial Number

Method 1 – Automatic Search

By using several free applications, you be able to search the entire registry. If your don’t get any search results on the first try, you should at least run it two more times – just to be sure. Choose one of the free programs below, download it, install it, start it, and search by clicking the scan button you see on the user interface. If your Portal 2 CD Key is found, be sure to write it down or save it in a secure location. If, by any chance your searches will return no results, go to the second method.

Method 2 – Find The Serial Number Manually

To manually search for Portal 2′s CD Key, simply follow the next steps to browse the registry and retrieve the information you need. The tutorial is aimed at advanced computer users, but if you are careful enough, you will find what you need even as a beginner.

  1. 1.Press Windows+R OR click on the Start Menu.
  2. 2. Enter “regedit” in the text box (without quotation marks).
  3. 3. The registry is now opened. On the left side of the windows, you should have several folders. Locate and expand “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE” (to expand, click on the small arrow or plus sign on the left).
  4. 4. Find and expand the “Software” folder.
  5. 5. Scroll down until you see the “Valve” folder. Inside it you should find another one called “Portal 2”.
  6. 6. Click on the Portal 2 folder. Now take a look on the right side of the window. Find something that makes any reference to the CD key, such as cd key, license, code, serial number, etc. There you will find your Serial Number.

Make sure you don’t misplace your CD Key again. Write it down and put it somewhere safe, or store it on your computer. Either way, make sure you don’t misplace it again, as you will not find it if the game is uninstalled or if you format your HDD.
