So it’s Friday evening, and you can’t wait to get back in your gamer mood, maybe play a civilization building game. You don’t really care much about multiplayer, this evening it’s all about you, maybe you can try to continue to unlock new technologies. But oooh! Your plans get trashed when you get a pop-up telling you can’t play the game because you’re either not connected to the internet, or the server is busy.

Sure, that’s enough to get on anyone’s nerves on edge. Maybe even start a rage war like hat kid who got his WoW account canceled (seriously, have you guys seen that? Epic). But unless you magically have WiFi following you, forget about taking the gaming laptop you just bought specifically for your inner geek.

Settlers 7: Path to a Kingdom is a decent game created by Ubisoft and was release with their anti-piracy software which needs a constant access to the internet, otherwise no game for you.
Yeah, sure, being constantly online has it’s perks, like being able to ask the community questions if you can’t be bothered to minimize the game to read the manual.

You can play the game in a variety of ways. For example, in the beginning the campaign mode is suggested as it poses as a tutorial in the first levels.

The tale is pretty straightforward, with the overall aim to build communities and reunite the land. At key junctures you have the option to continue in the same mode or switch to sandbox structure, which is limited to just the buildings you’ve already unlocked. I advise you continue the campaign for a while.

The nice thing is that you can unlock the castle forge, which basically gives players the opportunity to create their own castles in a personalized manner, which are then available to view online.
Basically what you can do is battle opponents, which are either the Al in skirmish mode, or actually get online with other humans in multiplayer. There’s even matchmaking going on, and your records are kept in a display online, so you can brag about your high stats (or hide your face in shame of your ineptitude).

But for the most part, the game is a typical civ-genre. You build buildings which attract settlers, you grow crops to feed them, create more houses, build an army and then go on conquering other lands.
