DotA 2 about to be launched

Four score and seven years ago, a chap called IceFrog, developer of the very popular DotA map announced he would get to work with Valve.

At the time most of the DotA fans couldn’t really care less about what IceFrog was doing as long as he kept coming up with new updates for their beloved Warcraft III map.

Sometime later IceFrog, together with Valve, announced that they’re going to work together to create something that had been plaguing new releases.

That something is DotA 2, a new strategy game that’s built around the original version, only it will no longer be limited by Blizzard’s aging Warcraft III.

Speaking of Blizzard, there were some concerns about how Defense of the Ancients relies somewhat on the story used in Warcraft III and so they wouldn’t allow the game to come out.

My best guess is that Blizzard is busy enough with the upcoming Diablo III and that IceFrog’s backing from Valve had a little to do with it.

That was history, the present sees Valve finally lift the veil of secrecy around DotA 2 and announce a release at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany.

Alongside the new game’s unveiling at the German event Valve will also kick off a great tournament called “The International”.

At the event we will get a chance to see some of the greatest teams ever to play the original DotA professionally duke it out for the outstanding prize of $1 million in cash.

DotA 2′s new unveiling, the tournament and the big prize will make Gamescom a lot more interesting than they had been before.

We don’t know what sort of system requirements DotA 2 has but Valve tells us that part of “The International” will be a chance for nVidia to showoff some new hardware.

I know that apart from the glamour there’s little to this article but I promise to be among the first who takes DotA 2 for a spin when we actually get a public release.
