Blizzard’s DOTA May Not Be Relevant

Blizzard is a company I’m considerably pleased with overall but from what I’ve been able to gather so far, their version of DOTA isn’t going to be exactly up to standards.

In a bit of a mixed response, the standards of Blizzard never included the DOTA game so on that front there’s nothing to compare it to.

On the other hand, modern interpretations of the beloved Defense of the Ancients game that grew on the aging Warcraft III platform are setting some pretty high standards.

After the introduction of Heroes of Newerth, the battle is about to became a full blown war with Valve’s upcoming DOTA 2, so where would Blizzard DOTA fit in?

Pretty much nowhere or at least not anywhere relevant to any of the gaming genres Defense of the Ancients can relate to.

Unlike the others, but similarly to the original the Blizzard DOTA will not be a stand alone game but a custom map scenario within Starcraft II.

This is where issues start for Blizzard DOTA, not because Starcraft II is not a good game but exactly because of this reason. Apparently Blizzard will use the DOTA map they develop in order to grab some extra attention to their new map marketplace feature.

With a presentation of this sort, a rather shoddy practical aspect cramping its style and no official developer group being assigned to Blizzard DOTA it seems like it really won’t be relevant.

Actually, Blizzard DOTA will be genuinely relevant to amateur players and conversion to the idea from Starcraft II’s players.

This is because some of the gameplay was changed to accommodate new players (noobs if you wish) and DOTA 2 now makes money making considerably easier since the last hit system was “dumbed down” and now splits the money on across the lane.

It’s great to know that Blizzard DOTA has found something to make it stand out but catering to the amateurs is a bit disappointing to me as I was hoping for a game to stop the show.
