Activision’s Call of Duty generates over $1B
Games | Raul | January 13, 2010 at 1:23 pmAccording to Activision Blizzard Inc. spokesperson, the latest installment in the highly-productive Call of Duty series has been one of the best ever in terms of revenue, already generating more than $1 billion even though it is only three months since its launch in November 2009.
Furthermore, as if this amount weren’t enough, it has to be said that the extremely profitable video game made more than half of it in its first five days, recording a sum of around $550 million. It looks like the big money summer merger between Activision and Blizzard paid off more than they would have expected, even from a series of this importance.
In fact, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 had created a lot of hype ever since it was announced back in March 2009 and it certainly seems to have delivered the ultimate shooter experience as proved by the highly positive reviews published by respected gaming websites. Of course, these reviews were given solely on solid grounds such as the multiplayer component, a beautifully done section which has always received praise from the Call of Duty die-hard fans.
One of the reasons behind the enormous revenues is that the creators of this Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 had initially publicized it under the short name Modern Warfare 2 since they were thinking of taking the game on a new path. Instead, they ended up releasing it under the Call of Duty brand which now proved to be a highly-profitable affair.
