Focused on the single player mode, The Tribez is a city building game that breaks the pattern of the social element and ignores the gameplay style associated with it. Apart from that, the basic mechanics remain the same: build, upgrade, unlock new features and increase the population. However, its theme is hardly used, the game being based around the stone age era, and features pet dinosaurs that will help you in at your chores.
Despite not being that different from any other city builder, The Tribez is unique in its own way. Its story begins when you are taken from your time and brought to this distant space to create and advance a civilization. The people look up to you as their own god and will obey you and trust you to help them advance.

The Tribez offers quite a storyline through its over 100 quests. You start on small island, with a limited number of buildings, and in time you will be able to control three different islands, each with its own environment type: forest, desert and mountain. Up to the end of the game, you will be taking care of all three different islands, which is surprisingly easier than it sounds.

While struggling to conquer all three islands, you will have tons of buildings and decorations to buy for them. The same level up system is available in The Tribez as in other games from its genre, and you will only unlock new items as you gain xp. Moreover, the quests come at the same rate. They will help you explore your world and give you useful rewards once completed. Just to give you some examples, you will have to hunt for treasures and lost artifacts, and explore caves and islands.
In the game you will have to look after your people and your dinosaurs at the same time. They are the key element for a happy civilization that advances fast. Both, them and the surroundings, are created with wonderful graphics that will make this prehistoric world come to life. Each building in The Tribez is awash with color and is given more and more details as it is upgraded.

While it is not that different from your usual city builder, The Tribez manages to be a splash of color in an otherwise blunt collection of city builders that follow the same overused template with a short expiration date. Nonetheless, if developers start rethinking the entire concept that creates the basis of the genre, we would be surely on the path of a new style, a path which was opened by The Tribez.
