Time, number of slashes and the area left are the three factors to take into account upon completing each level. The faster and better you do it, the better score you get. However, you also have to keep an eye out for the various numbers of star-shaped enemies.
Those so-called ninja stars come in different shapes and sizes. The way they bounce around and move unpredictably will make levels unique every time you play them, making them more or less difficult on every try.
