Bored of your usual operating system? Perhaps its time to try something new. Android 3.2 Honeycomb, which was released earlier this year with the Motorola Xoom tablet, can now be installed on your usual laptops and PCs.
Currently in development, Android Honeycomb 3.2 was tested on a variety of hardware, but only users of Samsung, Dell, and ASUS computers reported it worked. Even so, ASUS computers seem to be the best at running it, but even those have however several flaws and random glitches. Even so, features like a stable WiFi or the Android Market work as intended.
Features which were reported to work perfectly include web browsing, connecting via WiFi, using Bluetooth, viewing pictures and playing videos. Keep in mind the project is still on development, and the team at Android-x86 is working hard to implement more features and even make it work for other x86 compatible computers.
The current project is entirely free to install and use, being 100% compatible with a keyboard and mouse. Moreover, the ambitious group at is also working to add Android 4.0 to their portfolio. However, before they do that, they will probably have to cut off their to-do list support for external monitors and for multi-touch.
Even if it was optimized so the ASUS Eee laptops would be able to run it better, the Android Honeycomb 3.2 operating system can be installed on other computers, and the following guide will give you a step by step solution for installing it.
1. Download Android-x86 for ASUS in .iso format
3. Use Unetbootin to burn the .iso image to an SD card or USB stick
4. From BIOS, select Boot form USB drive
5. Restart and complete the installation by running Android directly from your USB
6. *optional – to install the OS on your hard disk, use the EXT3 option to format it
